One of my dogs is a high energy Staffie cross who has incurred slight strains on two occasions and appropriate massage techniques post injury definitely helped her recover quickly.

Knowing my dogs are low grade injury free means I can train and compete confidently and this has been endorsed recently when two friends have had training issues with their dogs which finally showed up to be physical issues which had gone undetected for a long time. From a purely competitive viewpoint keeping my team comfortable ensures optimum performance, but basically my dogs love their agility and using massage as part of the overall picture helps to ensure they are in the best physical condition so we can enjoy a long and happy time playing the agility game together, to say nothing of keeping the local hare and rabbit population on their toes!  Wendy Hill - Professional Trainer and agility competitor

As someone who has spent many years training and competing event horses the idea of utilizing physiotherapy to help keep animals fit and well for vigorous sporting activities was very familiar. Transferring the same principle was entirely logical when I began seriously training and competing my two dogs in agility.

I knew of Merle through training colleagues and apart from her professional experience it was her empathy and ability to work with sensitive or nervous dogs that was the deciding factor as both mine are rescues and definitely fall into those categories.

I initially took Pebble, my 9½ year old dalmatian, to see Merle over a year ago when she began showing the first symptoms of, what we now know to be, spinal wear & tear in her lumbar region - her lower back had begun to look stiff, she had occasional lameness of her left hind leg & she no longer wanted to jump in & out of the car.  Pebble can be anxious when handled by strangers so I was unsure how well she would accept treatment – Merle is calm & extremely patient & Pebble has always been a willing patient!

After her first appointment, Pebble appeared more flexible in her lower back area & she’s had no further left hind leg lameness.  Unfortunately, about 10 months ago she suddenly lost movement in her tail & was in a lot of pain – I was very glad of Merle’s input during her recovery.

Pebble likes to be active & doesn’t really slow down when her back is sore!  This makes it quite difficult to tell when she is feeling uncomfortable so it’s very reassuring to know that, at our monthly massage appointments, Merle will alert me to any problem areas & treat them.  I pass on these details to my vet & although Pebble’s back issues will be an ongoing problem, between us we manage the condition so that she is comfortable & can continue to enjoy her busy lifestyle!!!
